Drive 100kms North of Addis Ababa is Debrelibanos Monastery. It was constructed during the time of the Restoration of the Solomonic Dynasty (13th century) and there is a new church built in the 19th century by the Emperor Haileselassie I. After visiting the church and the monastery, visit the 16th century Portuguese Bridge. The endemic mammal Gelada Baboon and the Lammergeyer as well as Rappels Vultures are all habitats of the area. Afternoon drive back to Addis

Direct drive to Tiya Steale Park which is about 20km away from Adadi Mariam. These stalae having different shapes and meaning are listed as a world heritage by the UNESCO. Then drive to Addadi Mariam Church. This church is believed to date back to the times of Lalibela and gives a good indication of the Lalibela rock hewn churches of the 12th Century. About 40km drive from Addadi Mariam is Melka Kunture open air museum. It is the nearest archeological site where fossils of prehistoric age (nearly 2 million yrs. Old) have been discovered. Stone tools dating 1-5 million years back are other discoveries of this area. Afternoon drive back to Addis

Drive to Ambo125kms west of Addis Ababa. The road passes through Gafersa, the A/Ababa water supply reservoir, and fertile land. Ambo is a weekend resort for swimmers and hikers. The main attractions of this area are Wonchi Crater Lake, Gouder River Falls and the Vineyard. After lunch enjoy the view around the Crater Lake with rich vegetation and wide variety of bird species. Return via Welisso town stopping at Negash lodge for relaxation and even swim. Late afternoon drive back to Addis.

Day 01: Fly to Bahir Dar and transfer to Hotel. Afternoon enjoy boat ride over Lake Tana to Zege Peninsula to visit the 17th century monastery of Ura Kidane Mhiret. Afternoon, sightseeing of Bahir Dar town that includes the open-air market, the source of Blue Nile river and view of the Bahir Dar from a hill. (Optional: drive to the Blue Nile Falls 35 Kms east of Bahir Dar to enjoy the wonderful waterfall.)

Day 02: Fly to Gondar. In the Royal enclosure you can find about six Gonderian king’s castles dating back to the 17thc built when Gondar was the capital of Ethiopia And further visit of Fassil bath, Debre Birhan Trinity church, rewarding for its magnificent murals adorning the roof and the walls and the Fellasha (Black Jews) village. O/N Gondar.

Day 03: Fly to Lalibela. Afternoon visit the 12th century Rock Hewn Churches, a live testament for monolithic project. O/N Lalibela.

Day 04: Fly to Axum. Afternoon visit the Stelae Park, Kaleb's tomb, Queen of Sheba's palace, archeological museum, and St. Mary of Zion Church where the original ark of covenant is housed.

Day 05: Fly back to Addis. (The standard Historic Route program can be combined with Harar, Bale, and the Rift Valley, South or your destination of interest.

Day 01: Drive to Kombolcha or Dessie; on the way visit the breath taking sceneries of Tarma Ber tunnel and Debre Sina mountain ranges. Stop over at Gemassa “Gedel”; endow with a stunning view Picnic lunch en-route. O/N Kombolcha/Dessie.

Day 02: Early morning start driving to Lalibela through the marvelous landscapes enjoying the scenery. Lunch at Woldia and further drive to Lalibela. O/N Lalibela.

Day 03: Visit the 12th century Rock Hewn Churches, a live testament for monolithic project (Group I & II). After lunch visit the group II of the Church and Nun's village. O/N Lalibela.

Day 04: Early drive to Mekelle through the scenic beauty of the Alamata Kobo mountain range. Picnic lunch en-route. Cluster of rock hewn churches are found, visit Abreha-Atsebeha & Wuqro Cherkos Churches. O/N Mekelle.

Day 05: Drive to Axum visiting en-route Debre Damo Monastery and Yeha Temple. O/N Axum. (Note that entry to Debredamo monastery is only for male)

Day 06: Full day visit of the Axum that includes the Archeological Museum, ruins of Queen of Sheba's Palace and Bath, the Stele Park, Kaleb's Tomb, the St. Mary of Zion Church where the original Ark of Covenant is said to be housed and others recently found Archeological sites. O/N Axum.

Day 07: Drive to Gondar through the breath taking Semien Mountains Ranges. Picnic lunch en-route. O/N Gondar.

Day 08: In the Royal enclosure you can find about six Gonderian king’s castles dating back to the 17thc; built when Gondar was the capital of Ethiopia, Fassil's pool , in which pilgrims still take a plunge at the issue of Timket (Epiphany) celebrations on Jan 19, and the Fellasha (black Jews) village. O/N Gondar.

Day 09: Drive to Bahar Dar. Afternoon enjoy boat ride on Lake Tana to the Zege peninsula where you visit the Ura Kidane Mehret Monastery one of the several in the area containing frescoes and elaborate painted ceiling. O/N Bahir Dar.

Day 10 : Drive 35km east of the town to visit Blue Nile Falls set in rolling countryside quiet unspoiled by tourism and an enchanting spectacle. In the afternoon you have time to explore the town's open market and fish markets, the beginning of the Blue Nile River andthe view point by the Late Emperor's Places where you can clearly see the river coming out from the Lake. O/N Bahir Dar.

Day 11: Drive back to Addis on the way visiting the Blue Nile Gorge and the 13th Century monastery of Debre Libanos.

Day 01: Fly to Gondar. Day 02: Drive to Sankaber through the beautiful sceneries of Kosoye and Amba Giorgis. Trek from Sankaber to Geech. O/N Camping.

Day 03: Trek to Chenek to the village of Amba Ras before zigzagging uphill toward Argin village and Chenek Camp (the spectacular viewpoint and place to spot wildlife). O/N Camping.

Day 04: Early morning trek to Ambikwa enjoying the view of the vast valley of the Mishesa. O/N Camping.

Day 05: Trek to Ras Dejen (4030m) and return to Maji. O/N camping.

Day 06: Trek to Amdir. O/N Camping.

Day 07: Trek back to Chenek en-route climb up a valley to Ras Bawit (4430), nice viewpoint. O/N Camping.

Day 08: Trek back to Sankaber. Drive back to Gondar. O/N Gondar.

Day 09: Fly back to Addis.

(Semien Mountain Trekking can be arranged in combination with the Historic Route and the dates can be less, i.e starting 2 nights.)

Day 01: Fly to Dire Dawa and drive 50kms to the walled city of Harar. In the afternoon visit the Rimbaud house, the Harari Ethnographic Museum. In the evening visit the hyena man feeding the hyena. O/N Harar.

Day 02: Drive about 45km to Babile for a visit of Camel Market. In the afternoon visit the colorful open market.

Day 03: Drive back to Dire Dawa en-route visiting the vibrant Chat market at Awedaye town and the open market in Dire Dawa. Afternoon fly back to Addis. (Harar can be combined with the Historic Route)

Duration: 1 Night/2 Days


Day 01: Drive 255 East of A/A to Awash National Park. The road passes through Debre Zeit, Nazareth, & Methara towns. The park shelters specially herds of Beisa Oryx and more than 400 Species of birds. If you are lucky you can spot crocodiles strolling around the Awash River. O/N Awash National Park.

Day 02: After breakfast more game viewing and visit the Awash waterfalls. After lunch, easy drive back to Addis.

Day 01: Drive to Dinsho via Shasemene. Dinsho/head quarter of the Bale National Park/ is rich of wild life. O/N Dinsho Lodge

Day 02: Walk about the park for game viewing many mammals and birds can be observed at ease. Horse ride to Gesay Valley a near by site, where you can spot herds of Nyalas, birds and other wildlife. After a brief rest drive to Goba for overnight stay.

Day 03: Climb the spectacular Sanetti Plateau /plateau on the air/, dotted with alpine lakes. Important site to spot Ethiopian Wolf. Further drive to Harenna escarpment which offers a breathtaking view of the untouched Harenna Forest. Drive back to Goba.

Day 04: Full day excursion to Sof-Omar Natural Caves. O/N Goba.

Day 05: Drive to Wondogenet to enjoy the hot spring, swimming and beautiful nature. O/N Wendongent.

Day 06: Drive back to Addis through Asela.

Day 01: Drive 270Kms. southward of Addis to Awasa visiting en-route the Rift Valley lakes of Zeway, Abyata, & Shala. Picnic lunch en-route. O/N Langano.

Day 02: Further drive to Wondogenet which is a famous resort area surrounded by thick forest that are homes of wide variety of bird species. Relax, swimming or taking bath in the natural hot spring. Afternoon drive back to Addis.
